A few weeks after frozen Dessa's mother is suddenly a wild dog sits with an injured paw on the porch of the little house in the woods. He is very shy and as Dessa's father comes home at night, he runs scared back into the forest. After a few days, 4 days before Christmas, he comes back. Gradually they get used to each other. But on the day before Christmas, the father is now in the forest, is a hungry bear that eats Christmas dinner. But the dog chased him.
The 1st Half is pretty boring, so most of the book would probably not read. The ultimate end is really good, but I think that there are better books. Interestingly, it is more for younger children (8-10 years).
